Nocturnal enuresis is defined as sudden unconscious nocturnal micturition (urination), in a child older than 5 years of age, without any organic, urologic, neurologic or psychiatric pathology. It affects 15 to 20% of children 5 to 6 years of age, striking boys twice as much as girls. The child’s discomfort and the psychological effects he suffers, as well as the discouragement or even exasperation of the parents, often generate multiple medical consultations. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of chiropractic care in the treatment of enuresis in children and adults. The noted improvement relates to the frequency of “dry nights” as well as urinary control.
