Slow Down And Enjoy Your Food...

With our eating habits getting seemingly worse by the day and rates of obesity skyrocketing, increasing research is investigating possible reasons behind these disturbing health trends.

In a recent study designed to determine how eating speed influences food consumption, 3,737 men and 1,005 women (average age 48 for men, 46 for females) received a physical examination and were weighed, measured and surveyed with an extensive diet/lifestyle questionnaire.

While participants were asked a variety of questions, a single question actually constituted the basis for the entire study: "How fast is your rate of eating?"

Subjects could select from five options: very slow, relatively slow, medium, relatively fast or very fast. Results showed that speed of eating was associated clearly with body weight, and a correlation also was noted between speed of eating and quantity of food consumed. In a nutshell, faster eaters consumed more calories and, no surprise, weighed more, on average.

WARNING – IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YOUR HEALTH - READ IT..!

In the last few months, fake chiropractors have sprung up throughout Indonesia. It seems these unscrupulous people are using the word chiropractic (spelling may vary), to ride the co-tails of a prestigious profession and guarantee themselves legitimacy. Unfortunately, they have no formal training in Chiropractic, use techniques that cannot be called chiropractic, and may represent a danger to unsuspecting patients. Some claim to have followed a 5 to 6 week course in chiropractic, others got training from a “friend” and most simply added the word chiropractic to their massage/reflexology banner…

We wanted to give you some information that will allow you to make informed decisions and avoid such dangers.

Today's chiropractor possesses a minimum of five (5) to (6) years of full-time university education in an accredited school, with emphasis in the biological sciences. That’s 5 years, not 5 to 6 weeks...

This long professional university training is your guarantee of knowledge, competence and seriousness. For your information, there is NO accredited chiropractic school in Indonesia, at this point in time. Most accredited schools are in the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Ask what Chiropractic School your chiropractor graduated from?

Your chiropractor has completed about the same number of lecture hours as medical practitioners have. Since chiropractors chose not to prescribe drugs or perform surgery, their education emphasizes anatomy, pathology, neurology, biomechanics, diagnostic imaging, physiology, spinal adjusting techniques and clinical subjects. Chiropractic is recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization). Is your chiropractor’s training accredited?

Because chiropractic education is standardized at the international level, you can be assured of the competence of a duly licensed chiropractor. If your chiropractor graduated from an accredited school, you can be certain that he/she received proper training and has shown competency at the level required by his/her education. Ask to see your chiropractor’s diploma.

Generally speaking, Chiropractic treatment is safe. A large portion of our education is spent on learning to recognize conditions for which an adjustment would not be appropriate. For example, when there is a disc infection, metastatic cancer, etc… Imagine when there is no such training.

Though rare, (in the order of 1 for 1 million), the vertebrobasilar artery may be compromised by a high velocity rotary cervical adjustment. Your chiropractor is trained to recognize potential danger signs and knows when not to utilize high velocity rotary moves in the cervical spine. They are not.

We believe that being well informed is your right as a patient. Question your chiropractor’s training prior to seeking treatment. Duly trained chiropractors will have no problem showing you their credentials. Others will be hard pressed to show you their training. The decision is in your hands…
